LAB: Gest

April 17, 2016 Los Angeles Theatre Center, Los Angeles, CA

Created and performed by Odeya Nini and Danielle Agami

As its inaugural program, The Industry Lab presented Gest: Two solo performers from complementing artistic disciplines — dancer/choreographer Danielle Agami (Ate9 Dance Company) and experimental vocalist/composer Odeya Nini.

Together these vibrant performers and creators explored the meanings at the root of the word “gest.” The evening featured solos, duets, layers, colors, images and forms of the human body and voice.

GEST:

Gest, Gesture, Gestate: mode of action, manner, equivalent to Latin gest (us) past participle of gerere: to bear, carry on, perform.

A story or tale, a deed or exploit, an action or position of the body, considered expression, demonstration, courtesy, to develop slowly in the womb or mind.

To bear. To carry on. To perform.
