Biography

Angelica Rowell, mezzo soprano, holds a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance and a Bachelor of Arts in Drama from UC Irvine. She is a singer, actress, and creative writer who thrives to create works that open doors for the marginalized and initiate a critical dialogue for systemic change and social awareness. In fall 2018, Rowell was the mezzo soprano soloist for a new commission by Pulitzer Prize Winner, Ellen Reid, as part of the LA Phil’s centennial celebration. The previous year, she acted as the mezzo soprano workshop soloist for Reid’s Dreams of a New World, commissioned by the LA Master Chorale. She has worked with composers such as Morten Lauridsen, Hyo-Won Woo, and Moira Smiley, in residency; and participates in musicals and theatre across Los Angeles. Her credits include: Tucked Away (Chia), Lesbian Love Octagon, Honorable Mention, Comb Your Hair or You’ll Look Like a Slave, Puccini’s Suor Angelica (Monitor/Mother Mary), Shakespeare’s Coriolanus (Volscian Soldier), Rorem’s Our Town, Henry Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas (Sorceress), Pride and Prejudice (Elizabeth Bennet), Beauty and the Beast (Mrs. Potts).
